.Trev,

"""On the other hand I'd be interested to know whether the original figure on Capital costs, and operating costs for Aber were prepared by the same consultants who have just come out with the much higher figures. Does anybody know the answer to that?????""""

If I'm not mistaken, the original numbers on the Diavik project were generated by one of the Quebec engineering firms closely tied to the Federal Liberal Government in Ottawa....namely SNC Lavelin Group. SNC's numbers appear to have been on the low side by about 50%, but they are The politically correct engineering firm:-))Funny how money and political power in Eastern Canada go hand in hand eh?....on the other hand, MRDI performed engineering work on Ekati and have lots of northern engineering experience...I believe the MRDI numbers will be more reliable and conservative, which is all to the good.
regards,
teevee

.Trev - I didn't mean that the report should be released without looking at the thing first. I was just pointing out that there was no need to "spin" it's release or time it properly if Snap is the guaranteed mine that many believe. Also I'm not talking about daily fluctuations in the market, I'm talkin long term as I said in the posting.

Well, the answers are partially hidden away, but I can tell you this much:

The feasibility study was conducted by Nishi Khon/SNC Lavalin and Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. These would be the most recent figures.

The prefeasibility study was conducted by Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. working with consultants. These would be the earlier, lower figures. The main consultant was apparently MRDI, as the following quote from that organization states:

"MRDI prepared capital and operating cost estimates for two development scenarios at this proposed open-pit and underground mine (Diavik), updating earlier studies that the company conducted in 1996. The update included review of the Medsystem model and production schedule, mining method selection, mine planning and scheduling and cost estimates for the mine and ancillary facilities."

Hope this helps you.

WillP
