Bel / Vod - Where is WCOM?

Bel and Vod may or may not be close to a cellular agreement in the coming days.

Wcom chose not to bid for Ati. They let this one get away. Wcom is now letting Bel possibly form a US wireless footprint with Vod.

Why is Wcom standing on the sidelines here? Why isn't Wcom interested in a joint venture with Vod-Ati in the US markets? Someone, anyone please tell me why?

I have a little trouble believing that long distacne is not a big part of WCOM's business. After all, that's where MCI and WorldCom have their roots. If you whittle it down to consumer, then I might agree.

Granted, I hope that the anlysts are right. Long distacne is either a commodity in the U.S. or really close to being one.
