Gary, I would like to know why CSCO and LU didn't send them any units to test. The impression is that they chickened out for some reason. Is CSCO's OC-48 module not ready for prime time? Is Nexabit's chassis not stable enough? Etc.

What do you think?

>>what do you mean about "next-generation" routing. What is that???

In 1989/90, Cisco was in start-up mode and was targeting a niche. You could build a network before Cisco but networking soon became very complex and a new generation of networking was built and IOS was the operating system.

Fast forward to 1999. IOS is still the operating system but we have entered an era which needs more than what is essentially a scaled enterprise network. We need a new architecture based on technologies developed with the task at hand in mind --> hundreds of millions of users sending each other multimedia attachments and movie promotions sending streaming video to consumers etc...

Hence, next-generation networks like UUnets are being built and they are using M40's as key routing infrastructure.
