There isn't a chance in Hell that a cdma carrier will go tdma. There is a technological disadvantage to tdma; plus, it is not economic.

If Ameritech's system is a poor one, it is the result of pennypinching and bad planning by the carrier; it may also be a new and thin system that needs to be built out.

PrimeCo and Airtouch generally are reputed to have the best systems. PrimeCo usually gets phones late, not because they can't get them, but because they have more stringent testing and won't approve handsets unless they meet PrimeCo standards, which are higher than Sprint's.

If I remember correctly, SBC was going to ditch the Ameritech CDMA system as they are part of CellularOne, who also has a Chicago system. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Regardless, the CDMA system was to be the one that was let go in the merger.
