What does this tell you?....Microsoft raises Internet access price by $2

SEATTLE, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Software giant Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - news)
will raise prices for unlimited access to its MSN Internet service to $21.95 from $19.95,
company executives said on Thursday.

The move, to take effect this autumn, matches a recent price increase by industry leader
America Online Inc. (NYSE:AOL - news) and also signals that Microsoft is unwilling to
chase upstart companies that offer free Internet access.

At the same time, Microsoft will step up its aggressiveness with an offer of a $400 credit at participating retailers for customers
who pre-pay for 3 years of Internet access, Microsoft Senior Vice President John DeVaan said.

Customers who took advantage of that deal would effectively be getting access for about $7 a month, DeVaan said at a
technology conference.

DeVaan said Microsoft was committed to its Internet access business, which he said recently surpassed the 2 million subscriber
mark, making it a distant second to AOL, which claims 17 million flagship users.

ANSWER:MSFT cannot compete with AOL and is fighting a losing battle. Why raise prices then....a defeatist action....free access is a hoax!

prompting to MSFT's price hike? then we can have only cable or broadband problem left. Is it time to buy more AOL?
