The A@P disaster highlights a point I made earlier....I was just trying to read over some of his posts to actually make an intelligent decision about him but I have to keep going back and forth from his post and the thread where they were posted and it is taking forever....perhaps an option you can have that lets you stay with the poster instead of being sent to the thread of the post.....one other question if a post is deleted is there a blank number or a skipped number or just completely gone.

So what is the protocol? How do we get votes on reinstatements for others who have been kicked off SI? How do we get votes on those we want to get kicked off of SI? Can we also vote on doing away with the New SI and keeping Classic or at least getting rid of all the banner ads?

Is it important that we have them contact the press first before filing for a vote of reinstatement? How come the person who spammed pro-A&P messages across SI are still posting today after their 19 or so messages were deleted? Has SI decided no longer to suspend people for spamming? Have the terms of use been stayed for the time being?

I honesty don't know what SI stands for anymore! Can you give us some direction on where it is headed? Are we now free to post anything we like as often as we like on as many threads as we like?

BB, I am sure you have thought of this but I'll bring it up anyway. I think there would be a big market for firms that would use the SI format as an "in house meeting system"? Are you working on such a product?

He is right, I can't do anything about this. But, you can:

Message 11497149

The A&P crowd seem to think SI endorses intimidation on its thread. I hope this is not the case.

Bryan,

I object to statement in the previous post to me on this thread and request SI to take appropriate action. A&P Trader has stated that I: have been relentless in (my) provoking anyone who shows support of A@P, and have aggravated everyone (I) come into contact with who likes the guy. He further stated that I: have camped on the member vote thread for the last several days bashing and insulting everyone.

I deny the above accusation and have included links to each of my posts on that thread over the past several days as evidence.

A while back you mentioned that you would be including an ignore option in the new SI. How goes this? I figure I don't win my bet with Cheeky until it's actually implemented <g>.

Currently, you support thread reading one message at a time and 10 at a time. Why not 100 at a time? Or any other number the user prefers. I still use BrowseMaster because of this feature (and a couple of others but mainly this one).

Maybe not lately, but many have expressed this same sentiment on this thread but have gotten no response. Is it because you don't think it would provide any benefit, or because you've written the 10 at a time routine in a way which does not readily support being made more flexible, or consumes too much server CPU or Disk I/O?

My guess is the latter, and I strongly suspect it's related to the ongoing problem users of 10-at-a-time have with keeping track of which messages have been read and which haven't.

Whichever, please reconsider. Ten at a time is a vast improvement, but inferior to "All Remaining".

yet another suggestion...I am almost done with this, I think....you know how you can file messages sent to you, either private or public....well how about others...for instance this one about how to put in pictures by cheeky kid....I want to save that so I have to do cut and paste and send myself a pm and then file it...can we add "file" to each post for a much more direct route?

I don't mean to be a complainer really but the performance problems with SI lately have been pretty bad. I just want to make you aware that users notice it. For example, this morning when the mkt had a mini-crash... there was a decided pause at every refresh to read a post. It took a full 45 secs to do a "next 10" on the Amazon thread.

It might be my imagination but in the evenings after mkt close things seem unbearably slow too. It used to be yahoo was like that, you couldn't post it just hung on you, but they fixed it. People will give up when performance is bad... I think it should be a higher priority than anything else, jmo.

Bryan, here's another small ooly.

Let's say you're at this field.http://www.siliconinvestor.com/subject.aspx?subjectid=4443

Then you want to look up an old post. Pretend it's post 100. You type it in...Then what? What tells you to push the return button on your keyboard to get there? Most links similar to this have a little "submit" or "enter" button for cognitive assistance.

I recommend adding a tiny "enter" above the "Go to reply #" box.

Best, Michael

BB I can see why M Cummings thought that ON24 was a go2net property...that ad for them is the exact same color blue as the other headers for SI!...look for the ads intermittent appearance on the SI home page...I guess they used that color because that is the color they use on their site but still it is confusing.

I never did hear from you in reference to the following post.

127.0.0.1:3456/SI/~wsapi/investor/reply?s=subject29206+ignore&sreply=11500524

I heard about a week ago on one of the threads I read regularly that the "ignore" feature was available and have seen it on some profiles but not on others. Are you experimenting with the feature and turning it on and off, or is there something else which is doing that. I also heard that it enabled one to not only ignore messages from a poster, but those to him/her as well. I have not seen this at all. Is it true? How does it work? Anyway, I'm glad to see you giving it a shot.

I have to admit that I first heard of your "Ignore" implementation when someone on a thread was suggesting to others to ignore someone, the first half of the most strongly felt concern of the anti-ignore folks. It didn't turn into the lynching frenzy that they feared, however (thankfully) and I am still confident that with a little time for people to get used to it, ignore will quietly become a favorite feature of many on SI.
