If you were a Senator, would you pull a string or two to keep your kid out of the meatgrinder? Be honest. I'm sure a lot of this went on, and I doubt that it was limited to liberals. A parent of any political persuasion remains a parent.

Zoltan, thanks for the info. I've wondered about his military service for years. Would love to see all the details laid out -- his case has an odor. The dates of military service you cited (Aug 69 - May 71) have him in less than the period of service for draftees of the time (2 years, I believe). "Volunteers" were required to serve longer. The 4 1/2 months in-country are a joke. Where are the reporters demanding to know what beneficial treatment he got? Anyone know what unit he was assigned to? Where he bunked? What articles he wrote for what publications? Do we have any photos of "Fightin' Al"? Any comments from old army buddies?
