Len, re: taskbar placement.

After many failed experiments, I've gone to a vertical taskbar roughly 1/6 the width of my primary. Even with a largish quicklaunch section, I've got plenty of room for the 10 or so tasks I seem to accumulate regularly. The number of letters to the right of each task's icon is consistent no matter the number of tasks running, so that reformat-to-make-'em-fit is not quite as distracting.

I've also found that some apps and many web sites don't really use the full width of a monitor - though they seem to need more height. As such, dragging the taskbar off the bottom edge to either side has been - for me anyway - a better fit in the jigsaw puzzle of my "desktop."

Just a thought,
p

re, taskbar
Len, I've got an idea about a possible solution. Usually, there is an option (or registry entry) which prevents "window splitting" or "window spanning" across monitors. Maybe, if you turn off this kind of option the taskbar spans across the whole desktop area.
