johnd, by reading some of your recent comments, e.g. buying at $88, it's hard to imagine that you were the boy crying wolf just a month or two ago. in reality, your prediction that msft would go back to the high $70s was actually looking more and more like a possibility earlier today.

could you be a contrarian indicator? i hope not since we are now on the same side of the fence.

i'm hoping the recent beating the naz and msft has taken will have been enough and that despite dell's warning, a strong earnings report by msft will be enough to get us headed back in the right direction.

i'd dearly like to see a run towards $100 but at this point, all things considered, i'd be very happy if msft were trading back in the $90s come wednesday morning. it's hard to imagine that msft closed at about $98 the day its fiscal Q4 earnings were announced this past july. here we are 3 mos. later, more than $10 lower with just as bright a future if not brighter than we had back then.

i think 2 people, balmer and greenspan, are to thank for msft's recent woes. that's not to say msft would not be at this level w/out their comments, but at least we'd know that the market felt msft was only worth $88 rather than curly and moe telling us where msft should be trading.

naz futures are currently down -16 but hopefully by tomorrow morning, we'll be singing a different song.

Johnd,

The rule of thumb for Microsoft's stock price:

1) If the daily closed price is about twice of the 52 week low, then the stock price is fair
2) If the daily closed price is higher than twice of its 52 week low,
then the stock price is ahead of itself.
3) If the daily closed price is lower than twice of its 52 week low, then the stock price is behind itself.

Today, the stock closed at $88 7/8, and today's 52 week low is $49 3/16, so today's fair stock price should be around $98 3/8. You know tomorrow is the earning day, the stock price should catch up after the earning, i.e over $100 !!!!
