Well here is one Coppermine benchmark I decided not to include in the review because I didn't get enough time to verify it : Half-life (Blow out demo, Diamond viper (nVidia TNT2) at 175/200) . The other benchmarks (Athlon 700, PIII 600) are 100% verified ! : )

CPU HL 800x600x16 HL 1024x768x16
Athlon 700 59.8 59.1
PIII EB 733 56.8 56.0
Athlon 600 53.8 53.3
PIII 600 BX 47 46.9
PIII B 600 i820 47.8 47.4

Confirms the Quake 3 benchmarks: the Athlon still rules the 3D games realm.

The top 5 applications are not "ordinary" applications: we have four games running in DirectX or OpenGL at 70 to 130 frames per second. And we have 3DStudioMAX doing 3D rendering. Guess what? On these "heavy duty" applications, the VIA chipset beats the i820 Camino!

Only in Netscape-like applications does Intel's "high bandwidth" RAMBUS have an advantage of 2 to 3%.

WOW! A 2% gain in business applications for FOUR TIMES THE MEMORY COST. Absolutely no improvement in 3DStudioMAX. I'm sure those Camino motherboards are going to sell like hotcakes (if they are ever certified as working).

No, I don't "think", I know it for sure. What I think
is that you have some thinking problems. I was
comparing i440BX PC-100 platform with the
i840 RAMBUST platform, WITH THE SAME PROCESSOR,
COPPERMINE. I was trying to make this comparison
as clean as possible for you. You still did not
get it: the 400% increase in bandwidth has
bought you only 2.5% gain in application
performance. What I am alluding to is that
you guys have little clue as where your
application run-time budget goes, at system
level. The above 2.5% result is a good
illustration.

I can tell you more:
Please do yourself a favor: get an ASUS P2B board,
and run it at 133FSB/133SDRAM with Cumine. Then
compare results with a i820/40 system.
Then look at your face in a mirror.

As far as processor-L2 interaction concern,
I am impressed with CuLaterMine 32-byte-wide
access - it is more than "Ford Mustang" approach!

You asked him, but I wanna answer. ;)

i820/DRDRAM vs. Irongate/PC100 IS a "joke" in price/performance.

With the extremely high costs of an i820 system (whenever incompetent Intel gives it the green light) one would expect it to offer a superior performance advantage but it only offers better performance is a few applications with processors at a HIGHER clock speed.

i840 seems to be better used w/DRDRAM because those systems cost a bunch anyways and I would guess with its extra features it is faster than i820.

I bet Intel can't wait to get out their PC133 compatible chipset!
