Hi Kathyh! $60k?! You must have a rather large school. Congrats. Argentina. Well, working as I have I have only stayed in Zarate. I have not made it to Buenos Aires or any other city. There is a touristy trip to Uruguay on which I may go. It is to a city called Colonia. The people are very nice and helpful. I live in the city of Zarate and the city is very active until midnight or later. I feel safe walking the streets alone even though I do not speak Spanish yet. It appears several of the shops are closed for a few hours during the day and then re-open later to maintain these late hours. Dinner is generally later than I am used to, 9 pm or later. Food is remarkably similar as to here. Steaks, chicken, salads. Nothing real spicy as I had envisioned. Open friendship is the norm with a kiss to the womans cheek, being a normal greeting and parting. Men will also do this but I do not notice it as often. Zarate has a small town atmosphere. I frequent the "Plaza Cafe" and this is clearly a gathering spot for locals. It is clear everyone knows everyone else. Don't get me started on how they drive though! sheesh concert of madness. I think everyone expects eveyone else to drive as they want so everyone is onthe lookout for cars or bikes or mopeds or motorcycles anywhere at anytime. I travel a normal two lane road to and from work. However during rush hour this street is anywhere from 3 to 5 lanes wide. You just have to see it. I was on the Pan-American highway number 9 and we were travelling 130 km/hr (80 mph) and we were inches from the bumper in front of us. No stomping on brakes, no flipping the bird they just drove. It was interesting. Just recently they elected their President. I stay a few blocks from City Center and it was LOUD! Fireworks at 10 pm, then at 2 am I was awoken by a huge parade. Families, tots, teens, everyone was out clapping blaing loud music, shooting fireworks. It was nuts! I can write more later but I am having a good time! See ya and thanks for the welcome back. -Jeff
