It's not surprising that the web pages are so naked. It's because there is nothing to post. There are no Service Providers and I spoke to a friend in Brazil (Sao Paolo) and asked him to check on Globalstar. Apparently, there will not be service there until next year (if that means 8 weeks or 60 weeks is unclear).

I bought puts a few weeks ago because it is evident that there will be no revenue this year and I doubt there will be any in the first quarter of next year either. I base this on the fact that there is no publicity on how to get a subscription, costs and even countries where there will be service.

Thanks,
Pooky

sitetranslations.com is a very good place to get Web sites converted to a variety of languages, including metatags, uploading etc. Since you mentioned the absence of anything other than English on globalstar.com where there STILL is no minute clock.

There are a LOT of Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese and other language users who would be MUCH more comfortable in their own language. Check out the costs of converting to Japanese for example in that sitetranslations place. Globalstar wouldn't need to sell many handsets to cover the cost.

I asked about this at Telecom99 and the marketing people didn't seem to think it was a high priority. Since it would cost little and all that would be needed is a checkbook [or credit card] to pay for it, I can't see the need for delay.

Good point on the coverage maps. It's fair enough to show a globe with the gateway coverage, but people should be able to zoom in to see whether Lichenstein, Andorra, Monaco, Vatican, Libya, North Korea, Timor, Kosovo etc have service available, with a click through to the relevant service provider's url.

Let's hope your suggestions appear soon in the Website.

Maurice

PS: You know, we could just about manage Globalstar via the Web. Don't really need office buildings etc. Just have shareholder voting from our WWeb terminals. Hold virtual meetings. Design Web sites. Handle advertising and all the rest in cyberspace.

RS, I could not agree more with your sentiments. The only cause for guarded optimism here is the seemingly reliable information supplied by Red. He seems to have a great pipeline for info. To raise spirits here, I suggest a contest. We will award one point for the first person to spot a Globalstar ad in any national publication and post it here. Feb 1st, 1999, we will award the prize (assuming there are any ads spotted) The prize will be whatever this thread kicks in. I'll donate the first $50.

As they say, it is darkest before the dawn. I've got my fingers crossed, but believe that if what Red SLK says is true, this may be that time.

Regards, Dave
