RE <<<A very interesting and a must read article on Via - S3 alliance. IMHO, Intel's law suits are not going to work against Via or it's partners.>>>

Goutama, there was a time when intc ruled, and when it spoke, the rest of the world rocked. I think that time is over.

Intel <INTC.O> buys 5 pct of Israel's Orad-paper

TEL AVIV, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Intel Corp has acquired a five percent stake in Israel's Orad Hi-Tech Systems for $5 million, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported on Monday.

Orad, which develops real-time video processing systems based on missile tracking technology, plans to offer 25 percent of its shares on Frankfurt's Neuer Markt this month. It expects to raise $42 million from the offering.

Orad and Intel officials were not immediately available for comment on the report.

Orad's VirtualLive sports Internet systems, which allow fans to watch football games from every angle, was used by FIFA during last year's World Cup.

The biggest shareholder in Orad is Israel's Ormat Industries Ltd <ORMT.TA>, which owns 26.5 percent.

AMD Launches National Television Commercial to Support the AMD Athlon Processor

biz.yahoo.com

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 1999--AMD is launching its first national television campaign to support
its latest product, the AMD Athlon(TM) processor.

The commercial will air for the first time on Sunday, November 14, 1999, on prime-time television.

Developed by Hill, Holliday, a premier high-tech and financial advertising agency based in Boston, the commercial takes a lighter approach with humor and special effects. It uses a comical situation to show the performance comparison between a PC based on the AMD Athlon processor and one based on Intel's Pentium© III processor.

The commercial was directed by Sam Bayer, who has directed music videos for rock groups such as Nirvana and the Rolling Stones, and television commercials for Coca-Cola and Nike.

``The message we want to communicate is the AMD Athlon processor is faster than Pentium III at any clockspeed,' said Jill Lindstedt, vice president of communications at AMD. ``The AMD Athlon processor is targeted at end users who are looking for superior power and performance, whether running standard productivity software or the latest cutting-edge consumer, business, and scientific applications.'

The new commercial will run through the holiday season, nationwide on the ABC network and ESPN. It will appear on prime-time shows like Monday Night Football, Spin City, The Practice, The Drew Carey Show and during ABC's Thanksgiving-night movie, Forest Gump.

Goutama, I expect this is the answer to all of Via's problems. If S3 indeed has a broad cross licence then via can make CPUs and chipsets galore for all comers. This effectively makes the UK lawsuit totally dead as by the time it works to the front of the queue the point will be moot. Down goes Intel, up goes AMD
