Hi Gary - Obviously, you seem to be quite conversant about this stuff, then you should do what is best for you. As I have explained here, I am not a technie, so my answer is "I don't know." However, Mr Roth, Dr Grove, Dr Bennett and Mr Gates are smart guys [incidentally, Mr Chambers is also a very smart guy, so there is no slight intended,] but they seem to be saying "ok, here is something interesting, wanna try it." It is important to know these are not only smart busines people, most of them are also *rocket scientists*. So, I decide to let them prove to me whether it is feasible or not, instead of 2nd guessing them.

best, Bosco

That's what WANG thought when they had the Word Processing application on their DEDICATED, PROPRIETARY system that cost over $50,000 per work station.......

Along came the multi-purpose, ubiquitous commodity called the Personal Computer on which all kinds of office applications INCLUDING word-processing was run for hundreds of dollars...........and we all know what happened to WANG when didn't see this "sucker punch" from the new PC platform.

Multi purpose hardware is not only possible but is in fact gaining popularity (witness the Copier-Fax Machine-Printer in one hardware box approach recently).

There is place for specialized hardware/software platforms and there is a place for multi purpose platform......it all depends on your level of functionality, redundancy, durability, customization, etc.etc.

Remember, not everyone needs a Mercedes although it would be nice if you can afford it!
