Vision "Optical technology will be as important to the 21st century as electricity was to the 20th century." -- Gerry Butters Hmmm: I think the guy in the article should pose his vision in the following way? Bandwith in the 21st Century is to electricity in the 20th Century as optical technology is to (?) Optics serve to enable and enhance bandwith, optics are not the reason for bandwidth. We don't want the cart in front of the horse. Any ideas on the (?)

dear pat, thank you for that excellent citation of the Butter's article. i am continually astonished by the prolific quality of your sources. I cannot imagine how you find all these items, and i am deeply grateful that you share them with us. every one of them is right on point. you must read EVERYTHING! you well deserve the success your talent brings you. i recall you criticizing me for having superficial knowledge on JDSU when i wrote i had sold 1/3 of my position 'way pre-split. right again! luckily i put that third into Q, because i'd just subsribed to GTR. and now i'm thinking of selling half my Q. always the fool. j
