>>>In her pomposity and arrogance cluney argues with Ali, claiming over and over that the US has the best education in the world when qualifying statistics have shown for years that this is not true. The US, in fact, usually comes in 8th-10th.<<<

Hello Ted,

I took Mary's post to mean the TOTAL education establishment in the U.S. as being the best in the world. I agree with you that the average US kid at the high school level is pretty pathetic compared to a lot of his foreign cohorts. However, if you go past this to the PhD and beyond level, and into the teaching labs and University research resources, she is certainly right. People come from all over the world to study at the graduate and post-graduate level in the US. And to do research in US labs. A completely disproportionate amount of scientific, medical and other innovation occurs in this country. We can all agree that a lot of this comes from foreigners who have chosen to move to the US. But the very fact that so many have chosen to come here proves Mary's point.
I don't see this as a conceited or idiotic observation.

Regards,

Frank

RE:"in the past few weeks, an exaggeration of AMD's importance and influence seems to have occurred. To quote you, some are saying that it was the Athlon that put CPQ on top."....

Actually Ted, it was dig toward the Intelabbees who blamed CPQs woes on the fact that they sell AMD chips...
So with the same logic why can't we give AMD some credit for CPQs regaining top retail market share and distancing itself from the pack, including all Intel, Gateway, Dell and HP?

Don't worry, I know the power of Intel...I've also been on this thread for a lot longer than most. So I know how AMD can screw up...but having the most powerful chip can definitely smooth out the screw ups...
Again, it looks different this Christmas season...compared to last...

You can always sell your AMD I guess...if you're scared of Intel. <G>
