Oh, I think he believes very firmly in Linux!!! (I know he's been using it for a few years now, but I don't know ANYthing about it) But I think that's his point --that you have to look at what is only potential at this time, and that the old investing rules aren't valid for these technologies. ANd that when something is deemed "hot"-- as Linux is- you find the company in the best position with that product or service and go with it.
Since he's computer science at Rice, he hears a lot of the tech stuff (which I think is what he means by "hot"--- not a fad, but the future). Maybe I should listen to him?

BGR, you may want to rethink your position on Linux because I agree with you -g- Actually, I know very little about tech but I always figured something would come along to challenge MSFT. It is to everyones advantage but MSFT to stop MSFT. I think many tech companies realize that they should work together to make Linux work before MSFT destroys them! Mike

BGR, re: <Linux is not a fad or a buzzword>
I believe her son's full statement was, "So you just find the company with the right buzzwords and the in technology, and they're going to soar."
I think Linux is a "buzzword" and an "in" technology. <g>

Yes, but that doesn't make Red Hat worth $15 billion. -mb
