great tip, jw!

that certainly solved a riddle for me. i have experienced this inability to select text and copy-paste same when on certain web sites. one is on zdnet sites. i'll include an example:

zdnet.com

any success i was having on this page copying and pasting text i was definitely attributing to luck. and intermittent luck at that! but the technique you described worked perfectly. well, maybe not perfectly... still i am not able to highlight the selected text so that i can visually determine what i have selected for copying. interestingly, after pasting same into a word processor, i go back to the web page and the text that i copied will then be highlighted.

now i just have to remember this technique. it is so rare that i run into this isolated situation. any idea what causes it? initially i was guessing that the web site had taken some sort of preventative measure to discourage copying documents?

:)

That's what I'm doing but it doesn't work on the laptop. Works on all my other computers. (I have 8 at the business I own)

I am sure this is a lame question, but what if you have a laptop with no mouse...how do you then cut and paste? Thanks!!
