Consider a spanking new fab cost in excess of a billion $ ,
there is no economical reasons to go with anything but
the latest processes. Now, if only the world realize
CYMI = .25 micron and below !

Lambda says new laser drills 100-micron holes for micromachining steps

Semiconductor Business News
(12/08/99, 05:01:05 PM EDT)

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- Lambda Physik today introduced a new diode pumped solid-state Nd:YAG laser for micromachining metal, ceramic and diamond materials. The company said the new Gator 2000 can drill holes smaller than 100 microns.

Lambda is selling the new laser to semiconductor device makers needing to add micromachining steps to production capabilities. Other targeted industries include automotive and medical devices, said the Fort Lauderdale company.

According to Lambda, the Gator 2000 has a 10 kHz repetition rate and 10 watt average output power (6 W at 532 nm and 4 W at 355 nm).

From 12/8/99: LEHMAN INITIATES COVERAGE WITH BUY... Analyst Tolomy Erpf believes rapid adoption of deep ultraviolet (DUV) photolithography by chipmakers will drive 27% compound annual growth rate in unit shipments of DUV lithography equipment over '98-'02... Thinks CYMI purest way to capitalize on this trend based on its leading market share (85%+), substantial technological lead, formidable barriers to entry... and sees co. undergoing rapid growth in revenues, EPS over next several years, driven by accelerating unit shipments, substantial increases in ASPs... Sees $0.21 '99 EPS, $1.35 '00, $2.10 '01... Has $60 target
