regcleaner 2.1 from this site may help with clearing the registry.

Warning! Used without care this program will also allow one to destroy needed registry entries. Don't delete anything without being certain that it is unneeded.

Shadow

appreciate the post very much - do you know some other way to clear the registry than using their program - their program aborts with a runtime error 5 - it is my belief than everything is sorta half registered now....

alos, regards to restoring .... the ir rep said to save the "auto backup folder" (whatever that is) so as to be able to reinstall my scans - any thoughts on this ??

Bob

Can someone help with a technical question.

A couple months back I ran setup from one of the update CD's. During the same weekend I upgraded to WIN98. I hadn't attempted the "update via internet" in TC2000 until after WIN98 upgrade because the program itself had run properly after WIN98 so I assumed all it's functions would be OK. But after WIN98 when I requested Update via internet it would bring up the update window and show 2 bars (you know those progress bars you see while its downloading files). And the prompt in the window is "Preparing system for update". Then it just sits there. I've talked to TC2000 support and never resolved this.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled till I'm blue in the face.

Although I've attempted various methods (because nothing seems to work right) to elimate my problem. But, here is what I generally do for an uninstall.
- tc2000reginfo and clear registry
- uninstall the program
- delete all the file in the folder (I started doing this after first few failed attempts)
- (I've even deleted the folder)
- stop everything except systray and explorer
- run setup from CD
-- sometimes I've reinstalled to completely different folder

I've talked to Worden tech's about this several times. We always go through the same steps and try exactly the same stuff over and over. I decided to make various attempts on my own when I wasn't paying long distance. Then this last weekend I decided to call them again. I was still getting the "Preparing system for update" message after going through all this with a Worden tech over the weekend. She checked with a senior tech. But, we never resolved it.

Fortunately, I have it installed on another machine and it works properly. But, it's an older PC running WIN95 and I'm wanting to get this resolved on my newer PC.

I guess I'm tired of long distance fees and not getting anywhere. They swear it's WIN98 campatible. It seems to do everything properly except the "update files" routine. Or at least it did.

Now I've got it royally screwed up. After my last uninstall/reinstall when I run TC2000 I get the message Run time error '429' ActiveX component can't create object. If I try to run tc2000reginfo I get the message Run time error 326 Resource with identifier version not found.

Any ideas?

This is the querkiest program I've ever dealt with. I work with PC's and have had to troubleshoot, uninstall, reinstall, various and many different programs. The most trouble I've ever had to go to was uninstall a program and at worst next delete the folder and reinstall in the same folder. Worked for WordPerfect, pcAnywhere, Word, various Office suites, etc.

Sorry, I've rambled along too much. Any suggestions, info on the registry, whatever would be appreciated.

marty

My apologies, but how does one clear the registry (I use Window 98 SR 1.0)?

I am having severe problems with backups (automatic and user demanded of minimal size {less than 4 KB each} and am very frightened for loss of personal data {years of effort as all my backups now have the same ridiculously small size}.

I obviously need to rebuild and your suggestions are much better than that provided by TC2000. I am not accusing TC2000 of no interest, but their empathy is weak, most probably due to limited resources. I do like their product when it works.

Thank you,
Michael Kelly
