RudeDog...

I don't think I include you in that group... I respect and read all of your posts... Your investment strategy is way more sophisticated than mine... I respect that... I also respect those that have sold their DELL positions and moved onto the latest trend if it makes them money... It's the other group out there that bought late and haven't had the cojones or wisedom to sell if they think DELL is a dog, or that MSD should be sacked or that DELL mgt. should be doing more PR to "hype up" the short term stock price that I object to...

Good Luck to you also...

BBG

Hi Rudy,..Re:. I guess, from your comments, and those of wbm, Jim Kelley, and others, that "REAL MEN" don't exercise any discipline or deep analysis on their holdings, but just go with their gut and stick with it... sorry, not my style.

LOL!!! I don't qualify for that real men junk but apart from that, I thought the recent discussions about technical and market direction, especially concerning the Enterprise server business and required resources to support that market made it perfectly clear that some of us at least are very concerned. AS OPPOSED TO WHINING!!

I'm also not sure that the recent earnings weakness can be attributed to the Taiwan earthquake as I remember that DRAM pricing started accelerating in late July and August timeframe - in plenty of time to make alternate provisions rather than be subject to spot market prices. Furthermore, shortages of LCDs, motherboards and other components affected nearly ALL PC vendors. Didn't CPQ and HWP beat estimates even under these conditions? And HWP took a charge as well due to the Agilent spinoff!

So, it's not only tacky, but discourteous IMHO to label concerned investors or traders as whiners. I suppose we could practice the B&H philosophy but that assumes one never questions the premises for the original selection nor takes into account changing technical or market conditions. If legitimate technical or market issues can't be discussed then the thread is just for socializing and serves no other useful purpose.

Now, off the soapbox!! <ggg>

Thanks for all your contributions.

Best,

Lee

Aloha Rudy! Well said. As you know from my previous posts, I began a trading position in Dell last Spring when it became clear that the stock was going to range trade for some time. I still have my original long term shares and will continue to hold them until such time as I see some fundamental reason to sell (nothing on the horizon makes me believe that).
Since establishing the trading position, I've been in and out of the same 6K shares 4 times and have a 63% return on those shares. This whole discussion about "whinners" and "real men" seems thoroughly childish, as do the calls for MD's resignation.
It seems to me that if one can't be flexible enough to make lemonade when you're handed a basket of lemons they should find another line of work or perhaps invest in mutual funds. I spend lots less time looking at this thread than I used to, but I always read the posts from you, Chuzz, Greg M., and a few others. I always learn from you and appreciate the time you take to post here. It seems a shame that Dell's sideways journey this year has taken such a toll on the quality of the thread.
Cheers
Alohal
