I tried to like go2net, i really did. Hard. Chickissimo called the stock to go north when they bought SI, and go north it did, bigtime. But now what. If they screw up the best - the very best bar none - site on the internet, what will be the effect on shareholder value? This ain't rocket science.

There is however some rocket science over here, for those interested - Message 12329741

I just lost a lot of older PMs i had cached. What, are they reducing Classic's capabilities bit by bit? There are still Carlson On-line links though, thanks be to Allah.

"Perhaps GNET didn't understand" Of course they understood. But they have their priorities. Making sure that SI carries the unmistakable smell of the GNET standard from the first keystroke forward is part of that plan.
The inadequacy of the Classic SI Imitator was deliberate. SI management told me plainly that they would not duplicate old SI. No reason was given. The "classic SI focus group" was a diversion. I am ashamed to have been associated with it.

The one thing we cannot escape is that the user community is the single truly interchangeable component of SI. GNET Command will not hesitate ... indeed probably expects to alienate and disperse the old SI faithful. Then they can replace them with newer members who don't know different.

You got the Silicon Investor mass PM spam same as me. GNET claimed that the old SI servers werte part of the problem in ensuring good service.

I don't believe that for a heartbeat. Instead the old SI format was a hurdle to the total 100% GNETization of the Dryers' old community.

<edit> I didn't ONCE in two years get a total Netscape crash on my Mac from old SI. I have suffered THREE in the last 24 hours. Good service my maiden aunt Fanny.

"Memo to GNET management: When you buy a "community" website, try really, really hard not to piss off the community!"

kevin, you have got to stop making so much sense.
