What do you think are the 'good' databases?
Have you priced Oracle lately?


I wasn't really thinking of databases in the Oracle category. I suspect the vast majority of developers need something more than BDE with its desktop databases, yet don't need or want the expense of Oracle. IB offers a reasonable alternative for these users. However, there are numerous alternatives that okay for 1-100 users that are much, much less expensive.

In particular, I have refused to develop with IB because of its license fees, when I can buy royalty-free licenses for other databases that do the job just as well. Again, I'm developing for 1-100 users, not 100s or 1000s of users like the typical oracle developer.

While I suggested IB was overpriced, I was not suggesting that I see IB as in the same category as Oracle...
