I hope you had a good holiday. In approximately four days we will have direct evidence of the impact of y2k. By early Friday morning the writing should be on the wall. As the earth spins thru Asia and the islands of the pacific, the computers will switch to the year 2000, if the lights stay on, the telephones continue to work, and the markets stay connected to the ones opening in Europe as the 31st proceeds, life may continue as we know it next year. Have a happy new year, and hopefully we will all be here next saturday analyzing the fallout from y2k.

Ken

ole 49r, we all have a short window of time to observe our future.

As 2000 clicks into what Ken describes below as "first contact",
we here in the USA hopefully will not experience any power or
internet disruptions occuring at the leading edge of any 2000 hickups,
so could you or anyone else identify the time sequences of importance
given in USA est format when big cities first hit 2000.

Not sure, but I think New Zealand is up front.

Anyone know which of those first to hit 2000 are similiar to the
USA ? England ?

So, what time friday Dec 31 USA est will we be able to post our last
posting before the "darkness" over there crosses the ocean towards us?

Ole 49er: Your not the whining cry baby type, so that post wasn't directed to you.

All this talk here that life is unfair: I want to know when life was ever fair. The fact is that life has never been fair and most likely will never be. Gold has always been a political metal and thereby has been manipulated one way or the other over the years. That is the nature of the beast.

Manipulation is one of the elements of Freedom. I take manipulation in the financial markets as a given. The more you manipulate a thing, the more likely that the object of manipulation will turn into the opposite state that was intended. It reminds me of a movie I saw many years ago: " Last Tango in Paris". The guy in the movie had his girl so completely controlled and manipulated that he didn't realize that he provided the occasion for his girl to reverse the roles. He had become a slave to his slave. He got complacent in the relation and stopped thinking. That was the beginning of the end of him.

It's very similar with gold nowadays. It's sort of wimpy to complain about the manipulation and turn it into a moral issue. The point is to Rebel. Now I know you can argue that rebellion represents a moral ideal. But I won't pursue that here. My point is that I'm all for the manipulation and control because I know that this process is lighting a tremendous fire under the shiny yellow metal which will ultimately lead to quite an explosion in the POG. The greater the manipulation the greater the explosion will be. I don't see anything unnatural in the act of manipulation. The problem lies when the manipulation reaches extreme proportions and produces a reversal. I revel in seeing nature take its course. Manipulation is one of those dangerous freedoms humans possess. The results of the manipulation are as transparent as the tree is in the seed.
