Re: Some news coming?

Could just be the shorts giving up after no Y2K decline happened.

Short interest at:

marketguide.com

Showed a good sized increase for the December reading - now those who bought into those position have to be thinking about how to get out of them. Somo may have started today.

Volume at the close seemed higher than typical for AMD - but today was an atypical day, so that may not mean much.

Last August, it seemed pretty unlikely that AMD would be able to launch a whole new platform, with new chipsets, motherboards, and CPUs. Even Intel was having trouble launching its new 820/840/Rambus platform.

Now we are heading into the new year with Athlon an established brand. 750 chipsets are well established and KX133 based motherboards have been demoed by many manufacturers. Other Athlon chipsets have been announced.

The big threat that has always hung over AMD has been that Intel was sitting on unannounced products that were shipping or ready to ship - it's hard to argue with a big question mark.

Now Intel has announced products months before they are available, and in some cases (rambus motherboards) the announced products (with chilling similarity to the K6-3 fiasco of a year ago) look like they'll never achieve any real volume - major Intel product lines are failing trying to compete with AMD, just as AMD's super 7/K6-3 failed against Intel a year ago.

The big question mark is beginning to fade away, and with it go the hopes of the shorts.
