>> Guess all there is left for me to do is drag out that drunk in the corner<<

If you don't mind, I was resting quite comfortably, thank you. Ya know with this ever socializing and popular crowd of DARians it is difficult to schedule events here.

Happy New Year, CR. It's past midnight in Russia and they haven't dropped a bomb on us. Yeehah!

I woke up at noon today, which was nice because I stayed up late last night watching "Dancing at Lughnasa," which made me sad. And I've been worried about the Y2K bug for a while, so I was anxious to see what was going on in the part of the world that was already celebrating 2000, and after I got a cup of coffee I booted up and logged on immediately to CNN.com. (Nick was watching cartoons on the sofa, and I didn't want to oust him.) Then I checked the Druge Report (which keeps up with AP and UPI very closely, and has links to both), and then the Internet edition of the South China Morning Post (Hong Kong English language paper.) It was a relief that nothing bad seemed to be happening.

All of a sudden, I felt much more like celebrating. So we all got dressed and went out shopping. We went to a strip mall that has Fresh Fields, and saw a party store, so we went in, and it was jam-packed with people all stocking up on party goodies. Most of the 2000 stuff was gone, except for some paper cups, so we picked out some of those, and then some silly hats, and noisemakers, and balloons.

At Fresh Fields, we got a fresh fruit tart, one of those gorgeous ones with raspberries, kiwis, strawberries, and blueberries, and a Key lime tart, and a pork roast for dinner tomorrow.

At Costco we got a jar of Beluga caviar and a cannister of helium to fill the balloons.

At Total Beverage we got two bottles of champagne.

At Safeway we got steaks for tonight, and ice cream, chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, chopped peanuts and whipped cream for the kids to have sundaes tomorrow.

When we got home, we filled up all the balloons, and put them all over the house downstairs, the living room and the dining room. And had steak and mashed potatoes for supper.

In a few minutes, I have to drive over to get my mother and the dog. She'll be spending the night.

We've got fireworks, too.

Funny how much a difference not having TEOTWAWKI can make. Chris says for New Year's dinner we should have canned soup and bottled water.
