This reminds me of a funny story about a great manager once.

Some of the airlines were offering cash-back for flying a certain number of flights, the credit showed up on your cc.

When this policy was announced the personnel dept immediately sent out a blurb that no one was to fly that carrier, since there was the possibility that people would book at higher prices just to get the cash (which was pretty stupid since it was such a tiny $$ but whatever). The CEO of the company immediately posted to the entire company that to ignore the personnel restriction and take whatever flight was best irrespective of the payback or perk involved.

Moral of the story, sometimes you have to trust your staff to do whats best regardless. And many times, the perks aren't worth policing. (this is a pvt industry example, not related to governmental bribes).

It's been ages since we disagreed, Edwarda. We disagree completely on this. The money adds up -- and somebody pays up and it ain't the guy in the seat or the guy with the stock options.

Given that Lizzie and I are probably near opposite poles politically, it seems odd that I'm the one objecting to corporate welfare.

Let private companies spend what they want. If their consumers and stockholders are happy, and they break no laws, it's none of my business.

Then again, governments are all too happy to collect an extra sales tax so they can build a $200MM stadium and then turn around and sell all the prime real estate to corporations.....and.....and.....in the end we have some poor little consultant sitting in a worthless box seat. Grrr

I avoided mention of the FF miles in my earlier post to Liz. Although she is very wrong in stating that no one flies at full price, I do not have it in me to defend any major airline. In my opinion, FF miles clearly demonstrate that it is indeed possible to "fool all of the people all of the time."

I am for eliminating ALL tax deductions (personal and corporate) and adjusting rates accordingly. I would expect much corporate "squealing".
