I am in the process of sitting up a portfolio that I can "milk" for retirement money. It is going to include the stocks I have mentioned, plus a few more, plus a reserve fund. I think I will make it public when I do complete it next week. I will also give my rationale for the way it is set up, and how I intend to manage it.

I am in a similar position, I am gradually migrating to a portfolio which would have been, at one time, almost sacrilegious to me. I have never been 100% one stock, but have been heavy in techs because my background is electrical eng. I will be interested to see what you come up with.

Lindy,

<< It is very unusual to get an opportunity like Q >>

It is indeed and I admire your courage in taking the bold action you did. Congratulations.

I look forward to your more conservative action plan.

Bill,

But, if I had to do it all over again, I would do exactly what I did by going 100% Q last year.

There's no question in my mind that you would and that, for you, it would be the right thing to do again. When people ask me about investing, I tell them how important it is to know themselves and to know their stocks. I use your story as the ideal example of both. You will always have my admiration for having done the due diligence on yourself and your stock.

I'm over weighted in QCOM, a situation that seems to be correcting itself rapidly <<gg>>. Of course, I would have preferred it happen some other way. In a way concentration of assets is another form of leverage.
I 'm tempted to buy more, but I learned long ago never to average down. (Ownership bias is exceedingly difficult to completely overcome)

re I am in process of setting up
I will be so excited to see what you come up with. Unless the mighty Q stays down (I dont believe it will) I will also be leaving my away-from-home-paid-job in June of 2001. I will need a portfolio too that pays bills while still growing..
Maybe just the same portfolio but with always having a year's supply of money needed in cash?
I wonder how our other retirees are faring.
Thanks to you and everyone for advance information so the rest of us can plan maybe smarter????
