How was it worded? Is it OK if I refer to the ferret as the ferret? Or only you who can't call her the ferret? How about other people? Can they call her the ferret?

Is it ok to call ferrets ferrets?

Risking life and limb to ask these questions, I humbly await your answer.

Since when is making fun of a public person or celebrity a violation of SI terms of use? The only violation I can see here is your first amendment rights.

Let's put the words in context, shall we?

Here's the PM I sent you:

That thread's intended purpose is critique of CNBC, which can be both positive and negative, so there's no problem at all with pointing out perceived problems with them.

However, getting nastily personal about it is overdoing it a bit.

The critique part of your post was fine, but repeatedly referring to Maria as "The Ferret" isn't. That's just being nasty to another person for the sake of being nasty to/about them.

Please don't resort to that kind of insulting content.

First, nobody reported you. I read this thread.

Since we're making this a public matter now, I want to point out that this thread is for critique of CNBC. Critique can be both positive and negative. Fine. No problem there. My own understanding of "critique" is much like constructive criticism. By pointing out negatives, the entity being critiqued can improve.

However, some posts include in their critique things that are just downright mean (or "nasty", as I said in my PM) to say about other people. Statements that serve absolutely no purpose but to be mean for the sake of being mean.

Those kinds of mean, overly-personal statements are inappropriate in a venue whose stated purpose is to critique CNBC.

Regards,

SI Admin (Bob)
