Webster, tnks for tracking that down; I've been wondering when we would see some movement on this. Per Appellate Court order, I think the FCC will have to move expeditiously in acting on Q's petition.

Engineer and Clark are the authoritative sources for what this means in pure technology terms. FWIW, the UHF channel bands seem like they could be deployed as a separate HDR channel, although the license is for BROADBAND. I'm not sure if HDR qualifies as such or can function in those 752-762 and 782-792 MHz ranges.

As I recall, Q originally bid for the pioneer's license in the Miami area, so petitioning for the EAG license in the SE makes sense--it is also the non-CDMA stronghold of BellSouth--it would be nice to establish an HDR operation in TDMA land.

Note that the order of the Appeals Court directs the FCC to identify suitable spectrum to award Q to satisfy the court order; now Q has petitioned for its identified spectrum. No doubt the FCC can find a way to fumble this one too.

Steve

PS Kayaker, thanks for transcriptions on key portions of CC. A tough week; let's all hope things settle a bit.

QCOM pioneer license;

...from spectrum now used for UHF broadcast TV channels 60-69.

Aren't there UHF television stations currently using those frequencies? -SL (former employee of Ch.57, WCFE-TV; Plattsburgh, N.Y.)

Heads should roll at the FCC for delaying this long in failing to identify a suitable spectrum. I think the Senate oversight committee should recommend wholesale firings on the staff for incompetence and refusal to follow the statute and now direct disobeyance of the order of the Circuit Court. If the Commissioners fumble the ball, they should be impeached.

The problem with the spectrum is that since TV channels presumably use the spectrum and there are likely to be more delays in high definition digital TV it may not become available for some time.
