JDN, 99.9% isn't all that good. Your Sun friends will talk about "the five 9's" which is what you really want for mission critical applications.

... have to wonder how they will ever get 99.9% reliability.

Strictly speaking, 99.9% up time is not same as 99.9% reliability. For example if a fuse were to blow couple times a day reliability would be piss poor (ie., mean time to failure less than 12 hours). But if you have box of fuses and were quick to replace blown fuses you could maintain 99.9% up time.

Dear JDN, when EMC was down last week, I added extra shares.

I don't believe I'll regret it.

How's your weather? Does Paddy bother the roses?

Best wishes,

Mephisto
