Fire, Earth, and now WATER. What is next? WIND These are the film titles except WIND. The film maker is Deepa Mehta of Canada. The story line on WATER is about intercaste marriage and prostitution. The movie WATER is about the Upper-caste widow falling in love with a menial and the widows being driven into prostitution. The story's locale is Varnasi, formerly known as BENARES in the British Raj. Hey, listen, it takes guts for some Canadian to come to the HOLIEST PLACE for HINDUS and portray not KASI VISWANATH, but widows and prostitutes among SADHUS and Bearded Holy men. Some Guts, Guile and grit(s) <g>. The script was approved by Arun Jaitley, the minister Who control-Xed some words. Those words as per Jaitley could be misinterpreted. You thought that was the end of it. No Way. The ideological arm of BJP got WIND of WATER & the perceived nefarious Canadian film crew's attempt to denigrate,& insult the holy place KASI (AKA Varnasi, Benares) and the presumed hapless hormone-driven windows falling either in love below their caste or tricked into prostitution by high-caste brethren. The militant Hindu groups trashed the set and blamed the film crew of bribing their way from DELHI to VARNASI. Mehta was obviously outraged. Mehta claims that being a HINDU, she understands the HINDU religion. LO and BEHOLD, she doesn't understand the HINDU mind. Mehta also got into trouble with the Muslims. The muslims were offended to see the Actress SHABANA AZMI - obviously a muslim lady - with a bald pate, a very unislamic presentation of the head. Mehta should go back to CANADA and shoot the WATER there. If you think it is all funny, Yes it is! JPR
