Steve Re: 1.1 GHz, Copper, On die cache

:o)

And I thought AMD is just standing still and letting Intel to catch up. I would love to see some benchmark from this baby.

Very impressive Stevie. Now can someone confirm that it uses conventional cooling?

Steve - RE: "AMD DEMONSTRATES 1.1GHz AMD ATHLON[tm] PROCESSOR
- AMD Athlon[tm] Processor Built on Advanced Copper Technology Shatters GigaHertz (1000MHz) Barrier-"

Oh yeah! AMD don't need to show no stinkin' 1GHz. ;)

I'm glad AMD didn't just try to match Intel and show 1GHz. AMD played it smart and "kept their cards close".

This is cool because now Intel will probably want to show a 1.2GHz - or higher - Willy next week. I'll be disappointed if they don't. ;)

That "Motorolo" copper process must be some fluke, it is somehow producing above the 300MHz barrier!

Did you see the Register article today that had an Intel rep say copper would have made things easier for the process that uses the notch?

steve:

Awesome...This historical event combined with tomorrow's webcast with Computer Associates could really light a fire under AMD now that it has closed above $40!

<AMD DEMONSTRATES 1.1GHz AMD ATHLON[tm] PROCESSOR>

Three things crossed my mind when I saw this:

1. Clearly this is impossible. We need Paul to confirm 900MHz > 1.1GHz.

2. If this kind of demo is all AMD was looking for then one has to wonder why AMD did not phase in 1G demonstration a few weeks back to get some PR mileage. I wonder about the judgement of the marketing guys here.

3. For the people who have *still* not figured out what Athlon is capable of: Pay attention. 1.1G is HEAVILY sandbagged number for Thunderbirds.

Now, let's see if AMD has anymore surprises at IDF.
