Bush lost because of the economy, not because of his allegedly moderate stances. Ford, likewise, lost by a hair on economic issues, and because he was portrayed as a mental lightweight (notice any parallels?). During a roaring economy, the incumbent has the edge against a radical conservative. McCain, as a moderate, has a big advantage over Gore, as he alone can draw well among independents and Reagan Democrats.

You know and I know that McCain stand a far better chance than Bushie of beating Gore. The Gore people certainly prefer to run against Bush. When Bush loses to Gore in November, we'll see who the smart rats were.
