I think the reason Microsoft lost the market of China to Linux is due to security concern,And now the European market. Linux open its source codes, so if customers had any concern about security , they can modify the codes; but for Microsoft, you either take it or not take it , because the source code is not open ;since most of the customers have a concern about security, so they will not take Microsoft but switch to other chpoices in the market. To regain the confidernce from the customers, Microsoft should open up its code , otherwise the consequence of losing market gradually is more serious than the DOJ S**T

I remember reading about MS's build procedure. They rebuild and test the entire O/S using an automated procedure that does an enormous amount of regression testing.

I doubt if this kind of extensive testing would be done by any "outside" developer of an "open" xxxdows O/S.
