Wireless will never be able to compete with fiber.

Trust me, this is an area I know a lot about.

By the way . . . SoftBank has an investment in an all optical (not RF) wireless company named TeraBeam that can almost match fiber data rates, but not quite due to the unsheathed nature of wireless. Seriously, pretty exciting stuff - probably the end of xDSL technologies.
