Spitfire is the entry level Athlon, why should it use copper if it only has to run at 700 MHz? And BTW, its die size is smaller than the regular Spry Athy.

Wouldn't the smaller die size imply that it is from Dresden? I don't see how they get a smaller die size out of Austin, unless they have brought up a new process.

I take it when you say the smaller die size...you don't think Fab 25 will be converted to 0.18um. However its my understanding that Fab 25 will be converted to both copper and 0.18 and will produce flash and Athlon parts. Remember the K6 is being phased out.

When you went to the Dirk Dinner last year, your notes said something about cells in the Athlon being hand placed, or something along that line. I think you or someone else said the Athlon's die size could shrink with better "placement".

A few last comments before bed.
The large die size of K7 is due mostly to very large hand placed cells. Dirk commented that very little synthesis was used, and that all cells were placed by hand. How on earth did they do this in 17 months?

The design team was 120, and 80% were in Austin. They were very highly motivated.
