Rocky, given that there is a real question as to whether Lexar will be able to deliver on what it has promised thusfar, and that SNDK is sold out for the next couple of quarters, to start a marketing war at this time wouldn't make much sense.

IMHO it is better to own shares in a rich, conservative, profitable plaintiff than in a hand-to-loud-mouth, unprofitable defendant.

Rocky, I have to say that I agree with you in some ways. SanDisk's business model is three-pronged:

***direct sales (retail and OEM) of finished product
***royalty/license based for "naked" flash memory chip manufacture by direct competitors for direct competitiors (Toshiba to Lexar is one example)
***royalty/license based from CF assembly (disputed, in part)

With regard to direct sales of finished product it is clear that consumers at retail outlets could give a rat's ass about SanDisk's IP portfolio. There could be easily enticed by "8X" digital film, Kodak Picture cards or an RCA mutt with a Victrola.

The second most recent issue of Time Magazine dives into the current consumer fascination...
FORM AND FUNCTION. It should be required reading for the SNDK Marketeers (Mouseketeers?).

In a commoditized market form and function (if price is equivalent or near-equivalent) is the only distinguishing factor from a consumer perspective.

So far, Only Bob Goligoski at SanDisk PR has showed any interest in some of the ideas posted on our board. AND WE ARE THE LINK BETWEEN THE CORPORATION AND THE CONSUMER. IN FACT, MANY OF US ENDED UP OWNING SANDISK SHARES BECAUSE WE ARE "EXPERT CONSUMERS". THE MARKETING PEOPLE DON'T SEEM AT ALL INTERESTED IN RECOGNIZING THIS PLAIN FACT. IT NOW APPEARS THAT LEXAR MEDIA IS THE ONLY COMPANY THAT IS LISTENING.

prototypic "form and function" for the millennium

Rocky, in answer to your suggestion to get in on the Lexar IPO, I can only paraphrase investment guru Warren Buffett, who said "You can never make a good deal with a bad person."
