t2 - Nice to be particpating on the same thread again. Yes it is a little dissapointing that this isn't over with but on the other hand so what.

MSFT is not another AT&T and these times are not comparable to the time when that case took place.

There is nothing the individual states can do or the DOJ either for that matter. Yes they can have a phyrric victory of seeing the stcok price take a hit but it won't be a big hit and we're about to get earnings and a whole slew of new products.

This legal process WILL take years and years and at the very end MSFT will be a totally different company with totally different main products. At the end of the road the MSFT they find if they win will be unrecognizable from todays MSFT. There will be new judges, new lawyers and they will recognize sooner or later that they are totally wasting their time.

Better go after the OPEC gangsters who make no secret of forcing people to pay way over the market for a necessary commodity.

Now for a view of the future...

some spin-offs maybe....
Now if you think what Palm did as a spin off what imagine some of the goodies in the MSFT box of goodies could do. And then MSFT could do it lets say once a quarter for a couple of years at that.

OK ...how about a totally new operating system lets say based on CE for all sorts of new devices....

OK ....how about a totally different industry lets say wireless or cable with an MSFT touch to it to ensure profitability...

OK ...how about some hardware ...like an MSFT palm held with a built in QCOM phone and video and camera....

Well there's just a few and there are loads more. Actually I sort of feel a bit sorry for all those fine lawyers spending their lives trying to break the back of one of the finest US companies. Just imaging spending all that time and only seeing every quarter MSFT continuing to expand and prosper....indeed I'll bet those very same lawyers use MSFT products more and more themsleves. Wonder if all the pleading were typed on Word?

Well if the MMs take the stock down to $100 as they might since they also have to make a living what a nice buying op. I wonder if Bill and the boys will do a little something to interest investors and disabuse them of the idea that MSFT is finished??????

Best regards,

L

"I would bet [MSFT lawyers] are much better than the DOJ in the legal aspects"

more expensive but not necessarily better.
