"The latest results included payroll
taxes of $6.4 million,"

Does anyone know how much payroll that $6.4 mil tax represents? Isn't it in the neighborhood of 10 to 13%? If so, then aren't we talking about $65 mil ish in payroll expense not expensed against the pre-tax "non pro-forma" $79 mil (adding back in goodwill as a favor) operating income?

Your analysis doesn't hold water. A 34% INCREASE in page views can't all be generated by "spam messages" unless spam was just invented this quarter and people "suddenly started doing that." It's really unclear what you're talking about.

What other metric do you suggest they might want to tout?

How about profitability, revenues, etc.?

It may be that they have increased usage of Yahoo services by existing users.

Yahoo wireless may also have an impact down the road. Etc.

It's a growth field and Yahoo is at the top of the heap.

Expect continued strength here.

Ever wonder why they refuse to police terms of service on the message boards

While Yahoo is a zoo, that statement isn't entirely true. I have been kicked out of the Yahoo boards :)
Of course you just reregister and go right back in.

You know, I never buy things from Phone Solicitors or from junk mailings, but someone is and makes it profitable to for them to send me crap and call me when I'm in the shower.

So the fact that you don't spend money at yhoo isn't significant. It's a numbers game. They get 2% of every 100 page views to spend money. As long as they maintain that ratio, increased page views translates to increased earnings.
