Read the contract that Sun and Microsoft have. You will see that MS has the right to allow developers to choose whether their apps can run anywhere or use the MS extensions.

MS has stuck to the letter of the contract but violated what Sun would like to believe is the spirit - "write once, run anywhere".

Steve Lee: Do you recall the community open source license? I, and many others who follow SUNW, feel that this was a very fair arrangement.

... and the majority of the Linux community thinks it's a farce.
