If ActiveX components are properly coded and installed, they won't impact the stability of an IIS server. Particularly if they're built to run within MTS.

That's not to say that you're wrong. I've seen bad ActiveX components crash an IIS webserver. (IIS Exception Monitor is useful for trapping the faulting stack.) But I've also worked with production IIS web servers that run under load for months without a problem.

I've also started working with IIS5. I've seen how much faster it runs, but I wouldn't put one into production before load testing it thoroughly.
