Paul,

Nice find. I wish they would release this kind of news right before the market opens, not on a Friday afternoon right before Easter.

PS- I'll be doing the research on my system this afternoon and get you the specs tonight.

Paul,
This is the best line:

"I think there is going to be a demand explosion in the third and fourth quarters that surprises even Intel," Lam said.

Paul,

That's amazing!

A spokesman for Sunnyvale, Calif.-based AMD (AMD: Research, Estimates) said that the company's high-end Athlon processors and its value-priced K6-2 chips are sold out for the second quarter, which ends in June.

"There's either a shortage going on because of manufacturing constraints at Intel or incredible demand," the AMD spokesman said.

Great find. This clown company is kicking a$$!

Paul,

Re: AMD sold out

So much for Elmer theory of all these Athlons sitting in the warehouse.

Paul Ma Re..<<<Is this for real???? Ahhh, ASP will surely go up this quarter!! Yet, I doubt the veracity of this article. How could all the chips be sold when they haven't all been made yet, unless demand is really huge. Come on Dresden!!!!! >>>>>

Paul, this is probably is true as most orders are probably placed with a 60 day or more lead time. I think it would be unusual not to have lead time like that especially now.. Sounds like Dresden's june shipments are also sold. Looks like Elmer will have to shut up about all that inventory. Can we say > $2 eps. 2q-00.

Paul - RE: "AMD chips sell out

Athlon and K6-2 processor lines sell briskly in normally slow quarter"

BAM!!!

Thanks for the link!

That means at least 4M K6-x and 1.8M Athlon core products will be sold this Q, based on CC estimates.

Even with the additional Dresden costs, Jerry was VERY confident AMD would make more money this Q than in Q1. Now we know why!
