Irwin said recently that [unsurprisingly] the name QUALCOMM derived from 'Quality Communications' though they discussed 'Quality Computing' [I think that was it, not Quality Computers] in which case he joked, it would have been QUALCOM = the first .com! I suppose the two Ms giving the cute little radio wave off the end of the word might have been a factor too.

So, it's an abbreviation. But that's irrelevant really. The letters in company names are capitalized or not according to their registration. So you'll see lists of company names with all sorts of mixtures of capital and lowercase letters.

It's a trivial point.

Now, back to our regular programme.

PS: Hey, Tero, get off my limb! You can't go out on that limb if I'm already there. I claimed first that Vodafone knows what they are doing and are NOT depending on guesswork on developments towards 3G. Not much guesswork anyway.

< I suppose the W-CDMA which will be built [if it is] in UK will be a foundation which will convert to MC-CDMA if the 3G DS-CDMA option turns out to be a mirage. I suppose Vodafone will right now know that they are in an either/or situation in the UK. There is no way they would have bid so much if they didn't know what they can do over the next 3 years and what options they would have after that.>

Vodafone has pushed strongly for closely aligned 3G modes. I bet they get pretty much what they want.
