<<What really sickens me is the manner in which the Clinton adminstration is cow-towing to the Castro regime, permitting a dozen of Elian's school mates to visit him here in the US, BUT REFUSING VISITATION RIGHTS TO THE VERY RELATIVES WHO HAVE CARED FOR HIM OVER THE PAST FIVE MONTHS!!!>>

It also bother me greatly that only a week ago the boy was being supported by family who really care about his needs. He is now being given his every desire from the pockets of the US taxpayer - as is his father, step mother & step brother. Tomorrow we add to the dole his ex-teacher & a cousin.

It should also bother us all that a 90 year old bed ridden woman was thrown to the floor by the jack booted thugs.

"If I were Elian's father, trapped in a communist state as repressive as Castro's, I would be happy to see my child grow up in the arms of loving relatives, in a land where he would be granted the opportunity to realize his own dreams, as well as my own unrealized ones"

You're not, and so you don't know. And to think a 6 year old boy can make application goes against common sense. And I think you've allowed yourself to be brainwashed by official US attitudes toward Cuba. Many believe that the greatest enemy of Fidel would be an open doors policy towards Cuba. But you're always beating the drum for the merits of the US against every country on earth. It always makes the rest of the democracies smile (wince?) when US politicos get up at election time and at times in between and proffer the pap that it's the only this and the only that. I live in a country that yields to no place on earth as a free democracy.

It would be helpful if you put yourself in the shoes of this father and this child. I'm glad that those relatives from Miami are now on the outside looking in - they display extreme arrogance when they act as if their rights supercede those of the father. Maybe the Cuban Americans who reportedly offered the father $2 million to defect to the States will ante up the money for his friends to come to the States while he appeal process works itself out. No way? Well of course not - these innocents are from the evil empire!
