Zeev, Thanks for the primer on die shrink. As we posted here a few months ago, QCOM is designing in MMC compatibility for its latest chipsets. The last news posted indicated that this included the 5100...Message 13677299 If you look at the specs on the newest MSM5100, they support the SNDK MMC module directly. Which says you can use the MMC disk (which can go up to 20 Mbytes) to store any kind of local data on your cellphone, such as MP3's, email spooling, downloadable user functions, etc. the pdQ could benefit from this type of thing to allow the user to down load tons of Palm apps directly. Look for some great functions from all the mfgs of CDMa phones in about a year when the 5100 gets out there. Can any QCOM investors give us an idea about the implications of this design-in? Here are some relevant posts...Message 12924004 Message 13042603 Message 12925560 Message 13461472 Message 12892007 www8.zdnet.com I believe that if G3 phones will make accomodations for removable flash memory (MMC) and the potential OS's competing for acceptance (EPOC, Pocket PC, Linux for mobile applications) make similar accomodations, the standards for removable memory will converge on yet another SanDisk solution. I personally believe Memory Stick takes up too much real estate. Also, if you need a separate ASIC to use SmartMedia, this product will never be transitioned to the cell phone market where real estate is even more valuable than in Silicon Valley. Also, until the Palm OS supports a FAT file system it would seem that IDE/ATA compatibility is not possible. Any software engineers out there that can comment on this? Ausdauer
