Internet access was an
afterthought. Can you picture that?

Not that many years ago the internet was an afterthought for almost everyone.

My recollection is that in 1995-1996 Bell Atlantic was trying to roll out ISDN lines. I could pinpoint the date by digging out old phone bills, as I was an early adopter for ISDN, but could never get it to work. I remember about that time I talked to a salesman at Circuit City who was moonlighting from a job at GTE, and he said that DSL would be coming, I think it was in the fall of 1996. It never materialized, at least everytime I tried to see if my exchange could have it, I couldn't. I don't think it was available for me until late last year, about the same time RoadRunner became available. But I am in my 40's and my memory isn't so hot anymore.<g> I do keep good records, however.
