It's not allowed to have all the devices in active mode. I think it is limited to two per channel active, and the others must either be in standby or Nap.

A device being read or written in active mode will consume more power than one in active mode but not being accessed.

Gene, as everyone knows I'm no techie. However my take on Avo's statement, "... RIMMs can have power localized to one device. The heat spreader serves to spread heat across all devices along the RIMM module." is that if one or more devices are in use the heat is spread evenly among only those devices that are in use. In a DIMM heat is spread among all devices whether or not they are in use.
