'm still here. I'm wondering when someone's going to say something that hasn't been said a thousand times before. Or ask an answerable question. I'm up for those.

Please explain the method NOVL used to manage to spend 500 million dollars buying 20 million shares of its own stock at an average price of 25 (during the last quarter the average price was more than 30 dollars).

Message 13761914

Please tell me that some rational method was used and explain the method. Please tell me that after looking after this hard earned money for so long the shareholder's money was not burned. Please tell me that NOVL will continue it's buy back program now that it can buy its own shares @9 rather than 30.

A surreal explanation: maybe the method NOVL used for the buyback was that every time some employee wanted to sell their options at whatever price the stock was at the time they went ahead and bought them out. Please tell me it is not so.

Ok here's something new.

Who is Caldera and why did they give Novl $35mil?
Check this out: caldera.com

Does anyone remember Ray? Ray Noorda
biz.yahoo.com

Do you think Ray got his idea for Open Linux from Joe Firmage?

Does anyone think the $35mil came from Microsoft to settle the lawsuit Caldera had against them for infringing on Dr Dos? Of course Novell in its brillance practically gave Dos 7 to Ray. Is this the payback?

Sense of Traction.....

>>Is NOVL a buy? Absolutely. Will things start to improve immediately? Probably not. NOVL has fundamentals that so many "brand name" tech stocks would kill for. We've not only got the right products today, but I think you'll agree that the stuff we're working on is so much cooler. The sales organization needs to develop a better sense of traction, but by and large is executing on the existing go-to-market strategy. Marketing will still need some time to make an impact.>>

kilo:

Traction begins with ACTION.

We live in a shockwave world. Either you believe in the value of shocking people with your ideas, energies, products, services and the service that goes with it, or you don't. PERIOD!!!

Novell will sink deeper into red quicksand irrelevance - because of it's inability to open up/shock/excite/empower the world with this ONE vision.

Who's carrying the torch for this ONE Red Vision???

Who's the lightning rod???

Personally, I think it's GREAT!!

But more needs to be done to shock, excite, empower, turn heads.

And this can only be done by a radical rethinking of the fundamental posture and position of Novell's marketing MINDSET.

Novell's stock has cratered because Wall Street totally LOST confidence in Novell's ability to deliver the REAL goods: power, energy, trust, radical positive change.

This IS the transformational WAKE UP CALL folks we've been waiting for.

DOING NOTHING now is worse than doing nothing 2-3 monhts ago.

Eric should send his senior managers packing for a trip to some far, far away place so these people can totally reorient their priorities/thinking. There IS an opportunity here for many, many people to eat humble pie, forgive and really, really move forward with great, great ENERGY.

I don't see and feel this kind of thing happening.

I "see and feel" more defensiveness. More closing down. More locking out.

And this is at a time when Novell should be using this opportunity to break free of this legacy closed mindset.

Forget about ME.

The answers are inside and outside Novell. They are "in the air."

Novell needs someone to radically, totally, completely turn and roll heads. I'm a shareholder. I'm interested in INCREASING shareholder value. The best way to go about doing this is to attract attention and BUILD TRUST.

Many quite accurately can conclude that Novell is losing BIGTIME in the mindshare wars.

But what they don't realize is that it's really NOT a war anymore.

Building mindshare in the net Age is all about risking, partnering, helping, serving, opening up, etc.

You don't have to play carpet bomb advertising games anymore. You just have to have a powerfully concrete belief in an underlying VISION and MISSION which needs to be evangelized throughout the world.

ONE person can change this entire direction, this fixed/blocked mindset.

I am challenging Novell to break down this mindset and begin to enter this New Age.

Evangelize this ONE Vision.

The energy and power must be radical, total, deep, and rock solid. When I write these words I am "feeling, seeing and sharing" the power and energy of this ONE vision which I would like to share with the world.

I don't have to be Eric Schmidt to help and serve this greater Novell community. Others can walk all over me. I don't care. For I am trying to catalyze powerful change.

This community needs to open up and band together at the same time.

Kilo, keep sharing/writing/serving whatever. Perhaps I will talk or meet with you someday. The day is getting closer when I may have to visit some of these people and players. Yes, I exist. No, I am not crazy. Have patience. I am for real.

Peace.

GO!!

No you were not still profitable for Q2

You should really get a better grasp of the numbers that were issued. I suggest you listen to Joel Aranowitz, an analyst that follows Novell.

Your complacency will disappear.

Tell me what you think of what he said.

Skyrocket.....how about moving back to previous stock price territory (mid-$30s). I'd be very happy with that type of return in say 12-18 months.

Here's a question for you: Has Novell looked at extending ZENworks to Handhelds? With the proliferation of Palms into the Enterprise, wouldn't creating a management tool to handle Palm app installation (or Palm Device imaging), configuration as well as backups via NDS be interesting?

Call me, we can chat :)

Regards,
Peter J Strifas

I invested in Novell three years ago because of fundamentals , because they had the right products. Now three years later we hear the same stuff and the products are not advertised as they should be. I have not made any money, but management is taking home a paycheck every month. I hope this is going to change!!! Dieter
