It's often not a matter of being in outright error. But I too believe (after considerable reading on the subject) that the concept of soul is inseparably, consistently religious or mystical in nature. If you can make an argument for the soul that does not rely on religious or mystical sources, I'm all ears.

But Rambi has a subtle but valuable point. The dictionary is a repository for meaning, not truth. The two are apples and liverwurst.

No no no---- this is so frustrating- the MEANING of the WORD is generally accepted. Not the actual existence of the subject. There is no proof that a soul exists and many people do not believe it does. I frankly have no idea.
YOU obviously believe that it exists in terms of immortality and god--- def. 2. If you didn't, your CHristian faith would be meaningless. Wouldn't be Christian. But when you say that it is generally accepted that a soul exists away from theology, you have no proof. At one time, it was generally accepted that the world was flat, too, but that didn't make it true.

This is an important distinction. Perhaps I'm not being clear in explaining it, but you seem to be having problems grasping it.

Also, I do view your "opponent" with a great deal of esteem. I consider X a close friend. Thus your sarcasm and insults toward her in a post to me are inappropriate and make me quite uncomfortable, even angry. THird party insults, of which I have recently been the recipient on another thread, are not a very effective way of intelligently discussing something. Talk to her, but don't talk about her, at least not to me.
